February Basketry Residency

Drop-in studio hours on Sundays 1 pm - 5 pm February 9th, 16th and 23rd.

Kaaterskill Market is hosting a unique artist residency featuring local basket maker Renee Baumann. In addition to the shop’s permanent showcase of curated eco-friendly home goods, the store will house a working basketry studio. This residency offers the Catskill community an up-close look at traditional weaving techniques, materials and the creative process behind them. Drop-in studio hours invite visitors to meet Renee, watch her work, and explore the stories and traditions woven into each basket. 

A hands-on beginner cattail weaving workshop on Saturday, February 22nd will give participants the opportunity to try their hand at making a vessel from local plant materials. Sign up here

There will be a talk with Renee and a Hudson Valley willow farmer one evening in February. Stay tuned for details. Select handcrafted willow baskets by Renee will also be available for purchase for all of February. By bridging the gap between maker and community, this collaboration brings basketry into a shared social space and joy of gathering around craft.
